PRT 3800
For my small internship I got the opportunity to intern at Red Butte Garden. I was working with Bryn Ramjoue up in the Marketing Department. I learned a lot of very useful knowledge and skills in my internship. I got to see how the marketing department handles things and how they make their decisions. My goals and objectives going into the internship were as follows:
This internship was very useful and helped me accomplish all the goals and objectives that I created. There is more marketing than you can even imagine that goes into advertising the concert series and it all starts at different times. One the things I realized however, is you don't necessarily have to market intensely for every band just the ones that are struggling. Although this may be axiomatic to somebody in the music industry, to me, as somebody being exposed for the first time this was something new that I had to learn right away. This internship has brought me closer to my future profession because I now understand the marketing aspect of planning a concert series and to me that is one step closer. I was able to sell more than 50 tickets with an advertisement I created, That was easier than I expected and easy to measure because of a system we used called ticketfly. Lastly, I did successfully learn how to write a press release which, we actually ended up sending out and you can find that in one of the documents below. My role in my internship was to assist Bryn in the marketing department and that is exactly what I did while gaining important knowledge,
When comes down to evaluating my experience I found it very useful and helpful. However, I wished I would have had a little more responsibility. I learned that I am definitely a "go getter" when it comes to work. I don't like to just sit there, which is a great quality to have. Bryn was a great teacher and supervisor but she has told me that you sometimes have to bend the rules , which is intimidating. But we had similar work ethics so it was mostly learning new things not the work ethic behind it. Marketing is a fun industry and you get to work and network with so many different people. It was as though Bryn knew the entire city when we would work the concert gate.
I would definitely recommend this internship to other students because it was fun and useful at the same time. I came out knowing more than I did going in and I had fun doing it. To me is was perfect internship. As far as continuing in the marketing field... I don't know if that is necessarily for me. I would prefer to more behind the scenes working with the actual bands. My plans following this internship would be to use Bryn's connections and her name as a reference to land my big internship in the area I am hoping to go into.
I definitely think that going through this internship process will definitely make it easier to find future work in the field because people who are hiring are looking for applicants that have experience and now I do. Some advice I would give to future interns is don't wait for your supervisor to give you work, seek it out.
- I want to come out of my internship understanding how much marketing needs to be done for the concert series, when should the marketing begin, and all aspects in between.
- I want the work that I do in my internship to bring me at least one step closer to my dream profession of concert/festival planning.
- I want to be able to successfully sell 50 more tickets to the concerts that I am working on with the advertisement and marketing that I am doing. This way I can learn how to market correctly and use these skills in my future profession.
- I want to be able to learn how to write at least one press release at the end of this month.

This was a document I created for an ad that I designed and I emailed it to our graphics person and he then created it so we could advertise for volunteers needed at Red Butte Garden. I needed to have creative skills to create this as well as some knowledge of photoshop. I included because it shows one of the things I did in my internship.

This document is the press release that I created and it was about the need for group volunteers. I included it because it was apart of my objectives and it also shows more work from my internship. I needed to use my writing skills to create this.

This was a document that I was asked to create by my supervisor Bryn. It entails a "game plan" on how we were going to go about advertising for volunteers. This shows more of what I did in my internship and I was able to use my marketing and writing skills to create this.

This document is another press release I created but this one is more of an article press release. This was my favorite thing I did in my internship. I love to write and I love music and I got to write about concerts and why they are a great for customer/employee appreciation. I again, used my writing skills that I have been improving throughout my PRT classes.

This is a document I made to see how the Red Butte Garden numbers were doing. I broke it into categories and then the numbers were given to me and I filled them in. Writing skills again and included to show my work in my internship.

Here are two reflections that I did during my internship and they are both reflecting on my experience and what I was working on during that time.
